There is a wealth of different ways of putting Medical Humanities into teaching. This diversity shows the fecundity and cross-fertilization of Medical Humanities as an inter-disciplinary and critical academic field reflecting the widely varied Medical Humanities research finding its way into the classroom.
In today’s workshop organized by Pascal Nicklas (Mainz / Institute for Medical Humanities, Durham University) the idea is to bring together international and British colleagues to exchange experiences and ideas : https://www.dur.ac.uk/imh/events/?eventno=48465
The original project of teaching humanities to medical students in order to change their outlook on the relationship between medical practitioner and patient, make them more aware and broaden their outlook on the human seems in some places to have been marginalized. Whilst in some national curricula ethics is still a key element of medical education, there are a great number of innovative approaches in other academic disciplines such as history, anthropology or literary studies.
